Programs

Primary - Three to six years

The primary program mixes children ages 3 through 6 in classrooms designed to include the full range of manipulative materials which foster the development of linguistic, cognitive and motor skills.

Children learn to respect and to love others when they are loved and respected themselves. Respect fosters learning.
Through daily experiences in these multi-age classes a child builds character: a sence of self as a unique and separate individual as well as a member of a family, a community, and a culture.

The Primary program is available five days a week for morning or afternoon half-day, or full-day (9 a.m to 3 p.m) sessions in either the Green House which houses the Red Oak classroom, or the Children's House. This building has three spacious primary classrooms: Black Oak, White Oak, and Chinquapin Oak. (The Children's house is also home to one Toddler Two classroom on the main floor and administrative offices on the second floor.)

Full-day kindergarten children remain in the same classroom throughout the day and are prepared for more sequential work in language, math, geography and the sciences, which necessitate longer blocks of time. For children under 5 years old enrolled in Acorn from 9 a.m to 3 p.m, the afternoon includes a period of rest, nature studies, arts and crafts, storytelling, music and drama.

Children may enroll in the Greenhouse class on a 12-Month basis.
