History

Acorn Montessori School began in 1984 with seven children in the fellowship hall of the Allerton Methodist Church. In two years, enrollment grew to 50 and Acorn moved to its present site in a century-old farmhouse.

Today, Acorn provides education and care for appromixately 175 children from the age of 18 months through 12 years on a five acre campus which includes the Children's House (original farmhouse plus addition), the Toddler House, the Greenhouse, 3 Elementary Houses, the Animal Barn, playgrounds, athletic fields, the Butterfly Garden, flower and vegetable gardens, and an open-air Nature Classroom.

Children 18 months to approximately age 3 are nurtured in the Toddler House, and then move to the Children's House or Greenhouse Primary program for their preschool through kindergarten years. Other Children begin their Acorn experience at 3 or 4 years in half-day or all-day programs at the Children's House or the Greenhouse Primary program. Children remain at Acorn through their kindergarten year, completing a three-year cycle of learning at age 6, then proceed to the next developmental level, 6-9 years old; (lower elementary - 1st - 3rd grade) and then to upper elementary (4th - 6th grade).

Acorn Montessori School is licensed by the State of New Jersey and affiliated with the American Montessori Society. The school is governed by a Board of Trustees who set policy, implement programs and support the faculty and staff. The trustees are committed and dedicated to the development of the school in the best interest of the students and parents.
